Highlights of the Alternative People's Urban Social Forum
You will now see some highlights of the Alternative People's Urban Social Forum (Medellín, April 2014). Next global steps to be taken: World Zero Evictions Days - for the Right to Housing, in October, at the World Assembly of Inhabitants (WSF, Tunis 2015) and the popular alternative to the UN Summit Habitat III (2016).
The result after the days spent at the APUSF are as follows: 3,187 registered delegates, 30 countries represented, 92 social and artistic events carried out on the campus and in the neighborhoods, accommodation provided on a daily basis for 2,345 comrades, 23,000 portions of healthy food provided during the 3 days of the event, a colourful Carnival March, 40,000 visits to the website and 30 million Colombian pesos contributed by all the collectives, allowing us to meet the costs of the APUSF. This contrasts sharply with the World Urban Forum, which used 20,000 million pesos of the Colombian people, who were not consulted about these resources being taken from the public coffers, according to information from the Medellín public administration, to host national governments, bankers, financial agents, real estate agent and the tyrants of concrete who are part of the UN.
We hope that working together to build a movement in this way is useful for the various processes conducting urban activities, and contributes to building an urban social movement at local and global level, towards the Urban and Community Way, and in collaboration with rural people's organisations, particularly the Via Campesina.
