International Call to Defend Public Housing and Stop Neo-Liberalism in New Orleans
The struggle for affordable housing and the right to return in New Orleans is far from over! If anything, the shameful and illegal City Council vote for the demolition of public housing has given greater clarity to the social struggle in New Orleans. To advance this struggle, the Coalition to Stop the Demolitions is calling on all of our allies and supporters in the social justice movements throughout the United States and the World to stand with us on Friday, January 25th and Saturday, January 26th, 2008 for the International Days of Action against the demolition of public housing.

Act Together for Another World, One Movement, Many Struggles!
For more than 3 years Power U has worked in the historical black community of Overtown to stop gentrification. The City of Miami has used money, power, and influence to give away public land to private developers for profit. Overtown and Power U fought to stop this corruption and we won! We stopped a luxury development (crosswinds) in its tracks thanks to our organizing. County Commissioner Edmonson gave a strong voice for the people and guided a unanimous vote by the County to take the property from the City and begin redevelopment for current Overtown residents.
It is time to name our reclaimed land, it is time to celebrate! The name Sankofa, ‘reclaim our past so we can move forward’ we believe honors Overtowns rich history that must be included in our plans and actions of the future.
Ritual, Refreshments, Music and Celebration

WHY A CARAVAN?
(1) It is new, exciting and creative and is sure to get people's attention.
(2) It enables us to extend our reach to both local and global struggles. (3) It is more inclusive, with young people, elders and folks of varying abilities able to participate fully.
HOW WILL IT WORK?
On January 26th, we will be in the streets, engaging in various actions and rallies downtown, making music, holding teach-ins, sharing stories and holding a People's Assembly where we can make our voices heard, develop points of unity, and collectively determine organizing strategies for the upcoming year.
10AM: Gather at IBEW building in downtown Atlanta
11AM: Caravan begins
1PM: Caravan ends at State Capitol for final action and rally
2PM: People's Movement Assembly begins at Hunger Coalition
5PM: People's Movement Assembly ends
WHAT IS THE ROUTE? The Caravan route will go through Downtown Atlanta and Intown neighborhoods. As of now, organizations will co-ordinate site specific actions related to the Healthcare Crisis, Homelessness and Affordable Housing and Reproductive Justice. The caravan will also pass by significant sites highlighting educational inequalities, lack of public transportation, Disability Rights struggles, immigration and the prison-industrial complex.
WHAT DO WE BRING?
Bring yourselves and your people!
Represent your Struggle and Yourselves!
Decorate your vehicles, bring signs and banners, etc.
Coordinate shirt colors etc. so your delegation stands out!
